Interim project revitalises the Krone: Pop-up hotel in the heart of Zurich

In the centre of Zurich’s old town, Projekt Interim has transformed the traditional Hotel Krone into a charming pop-up hotel. Since the end of 2019, it has been offering 26 stylish rooms in a historic setting as a Temporary use – central, creative and still successfully in operation today.

Pop-up hotel in the heart of Zurich

The Hotel Krone at Limmatquai 88 is a traditional building in the heart of Zurich’s old town, with a history dating back to 1591. For centuries, it served as an inn and later as a hotel, accommodating countless guests directly on the banks of the River Limmat.

After regular hotel operations ceased, Projekt Interim took over temporary use at the end of 2019 and revitalised the building as a charming pop-up hotel. What was originally planned as a temporary solution for two years has developed into a longer use and will continue until 2028.

The 26 individually designed single and double rooms, equipped with shared showers and toilets on the floors, offer affordable accommodation in one of Zurich’s most sought-after locations. Guests particularly appreciate the historical flair, the creative signature of the temporary use, the cosy “Stübli” and the proximity to the Limmat, Bellevue and the old town.

The temporary use by Projekt Interim is an example of how vacant buildings can not only be preserved, but also revitalised with new ideas: In the centre of the city and at the heart of life.
